In hot pursuit

Turns  out that it is impossible to find a fan in the city of DC until sometime in March. We know this because we live in an apt where the complex either turns on heat or AC. Yes, it is January so you would assume heat would be the norm. We happen to have arrived during an unseasonably warm time when an oscillating fan would be wonderful! We hunted at a few stores for a fan and thought that maybe the use of the word “oscillating” was confusing because how could then not sell us a fan?!  The word may have still been too complex for some people, however the bottom line was we had no success finding a fan. We thought we would be dodging the Texas heat and bundling up to face the cold. Oh well. We’ll have to wait until March for a fan.

You probably went to a big chain store. I suggest you go to a local, homegrown hardware store that might still be surviving in the older part of town. Or try a used furniture store or Goodwill kind of place.

How loud were the neighbors last night?

We checked out Google Earth and there you were! Can you describe more clearly which building you are in? Can you see the cemetery from your apt window? Any mists in the cemetery? Any hands shooting up out of the ground?

  3. Speaking of hands shooting out of the ground…. I was just watching the movie, “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” just before I read Dad’s comment and it’s the part where Uma Thurman escapes from being buried alive, so (you guessed it) her hand shoots up out of the grave! A nice little Claire moment, if I may say so myself :)

As far as the fan thing goes, the same thing happened to me and Donnie in Lubbock! We wanted a fan in like February (since we didn’t have any ceiling fans) and could only find heaters for quite awhile. And Aunt Susie warned us about the same thing happening up here in Corvallis. So Mom and Dad nicely bought us a fan in the middle of August when it was in the 100s, and there still was a small selection! I don’t understand!

So we understand some of your sweaty pain. And here, when you have to keep your windows open during any hot spells since there is no central air, it can be very nice and loud at times, like when a guy decides to recycle all of his glass and aluminum at 5:30 a.m. quite regularly (the recycling container is just outside our window, basically).

  5. Oh and I’m surprised Dad wasn’t revolted by the mere mention of an (do I dare say it?) “oscillating” fan :)

  7. Grandma and Grandpa!

We cannot wait to hear where you are going! I sent your valentine today – and you belated birthday present. I have not had your address, and when we got your valentine – there it was!

I don’t have an e-mail for you either.

We are moving to SPV the weekend of March 2nd. As you can imagine this has been a challenging time – don’t know how I will make it, but we always do. It is a new thing to imagine that this will be a “forever” home. It sounds like you are having a good time in Washington. I think that I know someone at McLean Pres. Used to anyhow. Glad you found a Bible Study, that makes it feel a little like home.

I hope we can talk to you today, and we still have air miles from Northwest Airlines. We would like to go to Eastern Europe! So if you are disappointed, at least you will have us to visit you.

Much love to both of you and Baby too.
